The Progresa English Program (PEP)

The PEP is a unique volunteer experience that offers participants the opportunity to learn firsthand about the realities, culture, dreams, and challenges of young Guatemalans.
For one week, volunteers teach English to a group of Progresa students at Posada Belén, a former convent in the colonial city of Antigua Guatemala. Progresa provides the course methodology and materials; volunteers do not need prior English teaching experience or Spanish language skills.

Our English program takes place during the first half of December or the first two weeks of January, depending on the availability of the Posada. The donation for this volunteer opportunity is $1,400, which covers double-occupancy accommodation, meals, and round-trip airport transportation.
Additionally, your donation funds a scholarship for a student to attend the course and contributes a small amount to Progresa’s general scholarship fund. Checks for participation should be made payable to "Redwood Forest Friends Meeting," with the memo line reading: "Guatemala Scholarship Program – PEP."

If you wish to participate, please email the Progresa director at info@progresagt.org to express your interest by August 1st and receive the participation form and further information.
Space is limited, so please write to us as soon as possible to secure your spot. If you have any questions, please contact us at the email address listed above.
